Semiconductor leader Infineon and automotive electronics giant Visteon join forces to develop advanced power conversion systems for next-generation EVs, promising greater efficiency and performance.
Infineon Technologies has announced a strategic collaboration with Visteon Corporation a leading provider of automotive cockpit electronics. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at jointly developing advanced power conversion systems for the next generation of electric vehicles (EVs).
The partnership focuses on integrating Infineon’s state-of-the-art wide bandgap semiconductor technologies—specifically CoolGaN™ (Gallium Nitride) and CoolSiC (Silicon Carbide) devices—into Visteon’s future EV powertrain platforms. These technologies offer superior power density, efficiency, and thermal performance compared to traditional silicon-based components, leading to reduced system costs and improved energy management in EV applications.
Planned applications include battery junction boxes, DC-DC converters, and onboard chargers—critical systems in EV architectures that demand high reliability and performance. The collaboration aims to deliver powertrain modules that meet the highest standards of efficiency and robustness, supporting automakers’ efforts to develop cleaner and more efficient electric vehicles.
“Working with Infineon allows us to integrate cutting-edge semiconductor technologies that are essential for improving power conversion efficiency and the overall capability of next-generation EVs,” said Dr. Tao Wang, Head of the Electrification Product Line at Visteon. “This partnership helps accelerate our shared goal of advancing sustainable mobility.”
Peter Schaefer, Chief Sales Officer Automotive at Infineon, added, “Visteon is a recognized innovator and early adopter of emerging technologies. Together, we aim to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and deliver superior solutions to the global automotive market.
The agreement highlights growing momentum in the EV space as key players across the automotive supply chain align to support the industry’s rapid electrification. Through this collaboration, Infineon and Visteon are positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of efficient, high-performance electric mobility.
