No more charging limits for Kia EV drivers in the US, as access to Tesla’s ‘Supercharger’ network unlocks 21,500 new stations and transforms the electric driving experience.
Kia has confirmed that its electric vehicles (EVs) can now utilise Tesla’s Supercharger network across the United States, widening fast-charging options for its customers. The development was announced in a press release last month.
The Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro EV model owners can now access more than 21,500 additional fast-charging stations. This move increases the overall number of rapid chargers available to Kia drivers to over 40,000—an 80% rise in charging accessibility.
The rollout was initially expected in January but was postponed due to unspecified technical difficulties.
According to Kia North America and Kia America President and CEO, Seungkyu (Sean) Yoon, the expansion of fast-charging availability plays a vital role in the company’s electric vehicle strategy.
He stated that the partnership will help reassure customers about the practicality of owning a fully electric Kia by offering more charging options and improving ease of travel.
Kia joins a growing list of manufacturers whose vehicles are now compatible with Tesla’s charging infrastructure. Brands already on board include Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Rivian, and Volvo. Honda is expected to join the network by June.
While many automakers provide or sell adapters to allow EVs to use Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), Kia revealed that its 2025 EV6 and 2026 EV9 will come equipped with built-in NACS ports. Owners of earlier EV6, EV9, and Niro models can obtain adapters through Kia dealerships.
The company also announced that customers who purchased or leased a 2024 or 2025 EV9, or a 2024 EV6, on or after 4 September 2024, will be eligible to receive a complimentary adapter.
