Marking a major Make in India milestone, combat proven navigation and fire control systems move to full scale manufacturing in India.
In a significant boost to the Make in India programme, India Optel Limited (IOL) has signed a collaboration agreement with Safran Electronics and Defence for the transfer of production of two high precision, combat proven defence systems, enabling their manufacture in India. The collaboration covers the SIGMA 30N Digital Ring Laser Gyro Inertial Navigation System and the CM3 MR Direct Firing Sight.
The agreement was signed in New Delhi on December 22, 2025, by Chairman and Managing Director of IOL Shri Tushar Tripathi and Head of the Defence Global Business Unit at Safran Electronics and Defence Mr Alexandre Ziegler, in the presence of Secretary Defence Production Shri Sanjeev Kumar.
The SIGMA 30N system is widely deployed in artillery guns, air defence platforms, missiles and radar systems, while the CM3 MR sight is designed for artillery guns and anti drone applications.
Building on the memorandum of understanding signed in January 2024, the new agreement formalises the commitment of both partners to local manufacturing and long term support of these advanced systems. Under the partnership, IOL, a Mini Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, will undertake manufacturing, final assembly, testing, quality assurance and complete life cycle support to meet the operational requirements of the Indian Army.
By combining IOL’s manufacturing capabilities with Safran’s expertise in inertial navigation and fire control technologies, the collaboration strengthens India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and enhances the operational readiness of its land forces.
