Strengthening India’s chip ecosystem, ROHM and Tata Electronics collaborate to advance semiconductor manufacturing and technology development.
ROHM and Tata Electronics have announced a partnership to expand semiconductor manufacturing in India for both domestic and global markets. The collaboration aims to leverage the expertise of both companies, strengthening business opportunities and deepening ties between the Japanese and Indian semiconductor industries.
As part of the partnership, ROHM and Tata Electronics will establish a manufacturing framework for power semiconductors in India, combining ROHM’s advanced device technologies with Tata Electronics’ backend manufacturing capabilities. The collaboration will integrate sales channels to create new business opportunities in the Indian market and provide higher-value solutions to a broad range of customers.
The first step involves Tata Electronics assembling and testing ROHM’s India-designed automotive-grade Nch 100V, 300A Si MOSFET in a TOLL package, with mass production shipments expected by next year. Both companies also plan to explore co-development of advanced packaging technologies in the future and jointly market the products manufactured through this partnership.
The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s “Make in India” and “Designed in India, Manufactured in India” visions, enhancing domestic value addition and ensuring a stable supply of semiconductors optimized for the Indian market.
Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering a thriving semiconductor ecosystem in India and delivering advanced chip packaging services. Dr Kazuhide Ino, Managing Executive Officer at ROHM, expressed confidence that the partnership will meet growing domestic demand while enabling the supply of jointly manufactured products to global markets.
