LG Electronics Opens New Manufacturing Plant in Brazil

The plant is expected to provide greater flexibility in managing regional demand and global supply-chain changes

LG Electronics has opened a new home appliance manufacturing plant in Paraná, Brazil, with an investment of approximately $310 million (BRL 1.5 billion), strengthening its manufacturing presence and long-term growth strategy in Latin America.

The new facility spans approximately 770,000 square metres and has an annual production capacity of around 600,000 refrigerators, equivalent to producing one unit every 14 seconds. It is LG’s second home appliance production base in Brazil, alongside its Manaus facility in Amazonas, which has been operational for nearly three decades.

The Paraná plant incorporates smart manufacturing technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), industrial robotics and vision AI-based inspection systems. These technologies are designed to improve production efficiency, product quality and workplace safety. Articulated robots are deployed for physically demanding and higher-risk activities, such as transporting refrigerator doors, helping improve process stability and worker safety.

LG said the refrigerators manufactured at the new facility have been designed specifically for Brazilian consumers based on research conducted by its local R&D team of around 40 professionals. The products feature bi-voltage compatibility to support Brazil’s 127V and 220V electrical systems. They are also designed for the country’s hot and humid climate and include light emitting diode (LED)-based internal sanitisation technology to help prevent bacterial growth.

The plant will initially focus on supplying Brazil’s domestic market, helping LG reduce dependence on imports and improve logistics efficiency. Local production is expected to reduce delivery times by up to 80 per cent, enabling the company to respond faster to seasonal demand and changing consumer requirements.

Over the medium to long term, LG expects the Paraná facility to become a strategic production and export hub for Latin America. The plant is expected to provide greater flexibility in managing regional demand and global supply-chain changes.

The Paraná plant is designed to improve LG’s regional supply-chain agility, with local production expected to cut delivery times by up to 80 per cent and support future exports across Latin America.
