This development supports India’s broader energy transition roadmap, which targets achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030
L&T Semiconductor Technologies has entered into a Master Supply Agreement with Newen Systems to collaborate on the development of Silicon Carbide (SiC)-based power modules aimed at renewable energy applications.
The partnership will focus on the design, development, qualification, and supply of advanced power modules for converter systems used across sectors such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar energy, green hydrogen, and e-mobility. The initiative is aligned with India’s growing emphasis on strengthening domestic capabilities in semiconductor-driven energy solutions.
Both companies will jointly undertake engineering efforts to develop next-generation SiC modules tailored to the evolving needs of renewable energy infrastructure. These modules are expected to play a critical role in improving power conversion efficiency across applications, including emerging segments like data centres and AI-driven systems.
Silicon Carbide technology offers significant advantages over conventional silicon-based solutions, including higher efficiency, better thermal performance, and enhanced reliability. These attributes make SiC modules suitable for high switching frequencies, elevated operating temperatures, and longer operational lifecycles—key requirements for modern energy systems.
The agreement also encompasses rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure product reliability across diverse environmental conditions. Additionally, the collaboration aims to enable scalable manufacturing and efficient distribution to meet the rising demand for renewable energy infrastructure.
This development supports India’s broader energy transition roadmap, which targets achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Industry experts consider advanced semiconductor technologies essential for improving grid integration and enhancing the performance of energy storage systems.
By leveraging their combined expertise in semiconductor design and power electronics manufacturing, L&T Semiconductor Technologies and Newen Systems aim to contribute to building a robust domestic ecosystem for high-performance power modules. As renewable energy adoption accelerates, such collaborations are expected to play a vital role in enabling efficient, reliable, and scalable energy solutions.
