The upcoming model will be equipped with nearly every feature that is currently available on the standard XUV 3XO.
Mahindra anticipates introducing the all-electric XUV 3XO EV by the close of this year. Internally referred to as the S240, this model will be positioned beneath the XUV400 EV in Mahindra’s lineup and is slated to begin series production by November of this year. Previously, towards the end of last year, it was reported on the development of this new electric SUV, which is based on the previous XUV300 model, now known as the XUV 3XO. While the initial launch was planned for mid-2024, there appears to have been a delay.
Mahindra has set a production target of approximately 1,500 to 1,800 units per month for the XUV 3XO EV, a relatively modest amount considering its appeal to the mass market. This production volume could be reflective of a general slowdown in electric vehicle adoption, particularly noting that the XUV400 EV has not performed well in sales despite several updates. In total, Mahindra aims to produce about 12,000 units of the XUV 3XO across various fuel options, including petrol, diesel, and electric. Unlike the XUV400 EV, the new XUV 3XO EV will share the same dimensions as its ICE counterpart and will feature styling similar to the facelifted version of the SUV, though it will likely include some design elements specific to electric vehicles. The interior design and its features are expected to be largely the same as those found in the XUV 3XO.
The electric power for the XUV 3XO EV will be supplied by a 34.5kWh battery pack, which is also used in the lower-spec variants of the XUV400 EV. Details concerning the range and specifications of the electric motor remain undisclosed at this time.
In terms of pricing, Mahindra intends to market the XUV 3XO EV at a significantly lower price point compared to the XUV400 EV. Expected prices range from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh, making it around Rs 2 lakh more economical than the higher-end XUV400 EV. Despite the lacklustre sales of the XUV400 EV, Mahindra is hopeful that the XUV 3XO EV will provide a much more competitive edge and pose a strong challenge to rivals such as the Tata Nexon EV.
