Propelling India’s AI leadership globally, MeitY launches AIKosha and other initiatives to boost AI innovation, offering datasets, models, and subsidised GPU access.
Last week, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), under the IndiaAI Mission, launched ‘AIKosha’, a secured platform that hosts datasets, models, and use cases to support AI innovation.
According to the ministry, this platform also features an integrated development environment (IDE) with tools and tutorials to foster AI research.
The Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, introduced this platform, along with other new initiatives, at the IndiaAI Mission’s anniversary celebrations in New Delhi.
These initiatives aim to boost AI research and innovation, including the IndiaAI Datasets Platform, AI Compute Portal, and AI Competency Framework for public sector officials, along with programmes to enhance skills, support startups, and promote AI applications. The AI Compute Portal, for example, offers subsidised GPU access to assist startups, researchers, and enterprises with AI computing needs.
Minister Vaishnaw highlighted India’s impressive rise in global AI rankings, noting that the country now leads in AI skill penetration and ranks among the top 10 AI nations. He also pointed out the importance of India’s data privacy infrastructure (DPI) framework, ensuring ethically sourced datasets to reduce reliance on foreign data.
MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan stressed the significance of the AI Compute Portal, which forms the largest component of the IndiaAI Mission. The portal aims to make AI compute services more accessible, ensuring cost-effective development capabilities for various sectors.
The IndiaAI Mission, with its focus on advancing AI research, application, and skill development, is integral to realising the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the MeitY stated in their official press release.
The launch of AIKosha and other initiatives is a crucial step in making AI more accessible and fostering a robust AI ecosystem in India.
