Quantum Energy To Increase EV Production By 8x In FY25

The electric two-wheeler manufacturer based in Telangana has ambitious expansion plans for this year, aiming to increase its production from 6,000 units last year to 50,000 units.

Quantum Energy, an electric vehicle maker based in Telangana, is optimistic about fiscal year 2025 being transformative for its operations. The company plans to increase its annual production capacity from 6,000 to 50,000 units by the end of this financial year. Quantum is among the select original equipment manufacturers benefiting from the Rs 500 crore Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS), which offers subsidies for electric two-wheelers and e-rickshaws.

The company has already observed growth in both its business-to-business and business-to-consumer sales, totalling 10,000 units in the first four months of this fiscal year, bolstered by the EMPS scheme.

Quantum is also looking to broaden its consumer product range with new additions to its Plasma electric two-wheeler series and Bziness electric scooters, targeting e-commerce delivery services. The demand from fleet operators has risen, driven by the expansion of India’s gig economy, leading to collaborations with various fleet operators like ScooEV, Bijliride, BluWheelz, Bike Bazaar, Hala Mobility, Zevo, Green Drive Mobility, and the Ratnadeep Group from the South.

Additionally, Quantum is exploring the production of electric three-wheelers, which are currently in the advanced prototyping phase.

The company is gearing up for substantial capital expenditure to enhance manufacturing at its existing Pashamylaram facility in the Sangareddi District of Telangana, which has a capacity of 50,000 units. Plans are underway to invest more than Rs 100 crore in a new facility near the Hyderabad Airport Electronic City, aiming to triple the production capacity to 120,000 units. Quantum is also entering the battery-swapping sector through a partnership with Sun Mobility, with a new battery-swapping electric two-wheeler that will soon be launched.

In battery technology, Quantum collaborates with Log9 and Battery Smart, integrating their solutions in the Quantum Bziness and Bziness Plus scooters, which feature removable batteries. Chakravarthy C, MD of Quantum Energy, highlighted a new product designed for delivery riders, featuring a removable LFP battery capable of 130 kilometres per charge and a pioneering 90,000 km warranty.

Quantum has established a robust presence in South India, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, and is now looking to expand its network nationwide, with plans for new dealerships in Rajasthan, the Delhi NCR, Bihar, Maharashtra, and parts of East India like Odisha and Jharkhand. Chakravarthy C shared that the company’s expansion strategy is deliberate and phased, focusing on one market at a time to build clarity and confidence before moving to the next.

Lastly, Chetana C, Director of Quantum Energy, in a conversation with Autocar Professional, noted that an upcoming $10 million Series A funding round will help introduce new B2C products and strengthen their B2B market position over the next three to four years.
