Renesas Electronics Corporation has completed the acquisition of Oakland, California-based software developer Pictorus, strengthening its capabilities in cloud-based embedded systems design and expanding the functionality of its Renesas 365 engineering platform.
The acquisition brings Pictorus’ behavioral modeling technology into Renesas 365, a platform designed to unify electronics system development from initial design through deployment and lifecycle management. The integration will enable engineers to visually model, simulate and validate system behavior, helping reduce development complexity and accelerate product development cycles.
The move comes as industries such as automotive, robotics and industrial automation increasingly rely on software-defined systems, making rapid development and early-stage validation critical. By incorporating Pictorus’ technology, Renesas aims to support model-based engineering workflows that allow developers to evaluate designs and optimize system performance earlier in the development process.
Pictorus enables engineers to design system behavior using graphical block diagrams rather than traditional coding methods. The platform automatically converts these designs into executable embedded software generated in Rust, while maintaining interoperability with C, C++ and Python. Renesas said these capabilities can improve development efficiency and speed up time-to-market for new products.

These features are expected to help engineers explore design options more quickly and make better-informed device selections.
