As India’s first fab slowly comes to life, Tata Electronics has onboarded Malaysia’s IAQ Group for its Dholera unit, taking India’s chip ambitions to the next step.
Tata Electronics has partnered with Malaysian cleanroom engineering company IAQ Group for its upcoming 300mm semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, adding another specialised supplier to the country’s first commercial semiconductor wafer fab.
According to a report by The Economic Times, IAQ Group will provide cleanroom engineering solutions for the project. The appointment comes as Tata Electronics continues to build the infrastructure required to establish semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in India.
Cleanrooms are among the most critical components of a semiconductor fabrication plant, providing tightly controlled environments that minimise airborne particles and regulate temperature, humidity and airflow. Such conditions are essential for manufacturing semiconductor wafers, where microscopic contaminants can affect production quality and yield.
The Dholera facility is being developed under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and is planned as a 300mm wafer fabrication plant with an investment of around ₹910 billion. The fab is expected to manufacture chips for sectors including automotive, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, power management and industrial electronics.
The agreement with IAQ Group adds to a series of partnerships Tata Electronics has announced as work on the project progresses. The company has previously entered into a technology partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), while Dutch equipment supplier ASML is expected to provide advanced lithography systems and collaborate on workforce development.
Tata Electronics has also partnered with INOX Air Products to establish a dedicated supply of ultra-high-purity industrial gases required for semiconductor manufacturing.
