The collaboration aims to co-develop indigenous AI chipsets, hardware-aware models, and a unified software ecosystem
Sampige Semiconductors Private Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BharatGen Technology Foundation to accelerate the development of India’s sovereign artificial intelligence ecosystem. The partnership is focused on designing and building India-centric AI semiconductor chipsets, hardware-optimised models, and an integrated AI software stack aligned with the Government of India’s Make in India initiative.
With a shared vision of strengthening India’s AI infrastructure, the two organisations will jointly work on next-generation AI semiconductor chipsets, energy-efficient compute architectures, and hardware-aware foundational models tailored to India’s linguistic and sectoral diversity. The collaboration also includes the development of a unified AI software stack comprising compilers, runtime systems, and kernel orchestration tools.
The MoU outlines cooperation in hardware design optimisation, AI model research, and full-stack software development, with a strong emphasis on affordability, multilingual inclusion, and real-world applications across key sectors critical to India’s growth.
As part of the agreement, both entities will co-develop AI compute infrastructure suited for Indian use cases, focusing on improving performance per watt, lowering inference costs, and enabling scalable AI deployment across edge and cloud environments. By aligning chip architecture with large-scale multilingual model development, the partnership aims to reduce dependence on foreign AI infrastructure and establish a secure, self-reliant AI ecosystem.
Parag Naik, CEO and Co-founder of Sampige Semiconductors, said that India must build ownership across the entire AI value chain—from silicon to models. He added that the collaboration with BharatGen marks a foundational step toward creating sovereign, secure, and scalable AI infrastructure designed specifically for India’s unique requirements.
