Bowers & Wilkins meets JBL—two audio powerhouses unite under Samsung-owned HARMAN as Masimo tunes out consumer sound to focus on its healthcare innovation.
Masimo Corporation has announced a definitive agreement to sell its consumer audio division, Sound United, to HARMAN International, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. The all-cash deal is valued at $350 million, subject to standard adjustments, and is expected to close by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.
The sale is a part of Masimo’s broader strategy to refocus on its core healthcare business. Sound United, the division being sold, includes renowned audio brands like Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, and Polk Audio.
“This is a significant step forward,” said Quentin Koffey, Vice Chairman of Masimo’s Board of Directors. “From the outset, the Board has prioritised finding the right home for the audio business. With this transaction, we are sharpening our focus on expanding innovation and growth in professional healthcare.”
Masimo CEO Katie Szyman echoed the sentiment, adding, “Our goal has been to direct resources where they matter most—towards unmet clinical needs. Under HARMAN, Sound United and its talented team will have the right platform to thrive.”
HARMAN, which already owns iconic brands like JBL and Harman Kardon, views the acquisition as a strategic expansion of its audio portfolio.
“This move deepens our presence in key audio segments,” said Dave Rogers, President of HARMAN’s Lifestyle division. “Sound United’s legacy of excellence aligns perfectly with HARMAN’s vision. Together, we will deliver a broader range of high-quality audio experiences to consumers globally.”
Centerview Partners and Morgan Stanley served as Masimo’s financial advisors, with Sullivan & Cromwell acting as legal counsel.
