Shell Recharge and SINEXCEL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and launched a joint laboratory in Shenzhen, China, to accelerate the development of next-generation electric vehicle (EV) charging technologies and sustainable energy solutions.
The collaboration brings together Shell’s expertise in EV charging operations and energy management with SINEXCEL’s strengths in power electronics and charging infrastructure. The new Shell Recharge–SINEXCEL Joint Laboratory will serve as a platform for research and development, technology validation, pilot projects, and innovation aimed at addressing emerging challenges in the global EV ecosystem.
The partners will initially focus on five key technology areas. These include ultra-fast charging systems designed to improve efficiency and reduce equipment size, cloud-based charger scheduling and energy management, integrated solar-storage-charging solutions, megawatt charging technologies for commercial and heavy-duty vehicles, and AI-driven operation and maintenance tools that enable predictive monitoring and improved charger reliability.
Beyond technology development, the two companies plan to align their product roadmaps and global market strategies to accelerate the commercialization of advanced charging solutions. The partnership aims to shorten the path from research to deployment while supporting the growing demand for efficient and intelligent charging infrastructure.
Executives from both companies highlighted the laboratory’s role in fostering innovation, developing new business opportunities, and creating greater value for customers. By combining their respective capabilities, Shell Recharge and SINEXCEL expect to develop integrated solutions that deliver faster charging, smarter energy management, and enhanced operational performance.
The launch of the joint laboratory marks the beginning of the partnership’s operational phase. Going forward, both companies will expand collaborative research efforts and explore new applications for advanced charging technologies, supporting the broader adoption of electric vehicles and contributing to a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy future.
