The semiconductor test equipment maker forecasts Q3 revenue above estimates as AI infrastructure and wafer fab investments fuel demand for advanced chip testing.
Semiconductor test equipment manufacturer Teradyne has issued a stronger-than-expected forecast for the third quarter, signalling sustained demand for advanced chip-testing solutions as investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and semiconductor manufacturing continue to rise. The upbeat outlook sent the company’s shares up 13.5 per cent in extended trading.
Teradyne expects third-quarter revenue to be in the range of $1.20 billion to $1.30 billion, comfortably above analysts’ consensus estimate of $1.04 billion, according to LSEG data. The company also projected adjusted earnings of $1.85 to $2.15 per share, exceeding the market expectation of $1.53 per share.
The company manufactures automated test equipment (ATE) used by semiconductor companies to verify the quality, performance, and reliability of chips before they are shipped to customers. Demand for such equipment has increased significantly as AI data centres, high-performance computing systems, and modern vehicles require more complex and powerful semiconductors that must undergo rigorous testing.
Teradyne’s positive outlook was supported by a robust second-quarter performance. The company reported revenue of $1.33 billion, more than double that of the same period last year and above analysts’ estimate of $1.22 billion. Adjusted earnings came in at $2.47 per share, surpassing the expected $2.09 per share.
Looking ahead, Teradyne believes the industry’s investment cycle remains favorable. Chief executive officer (CEO) Greg Smith said the rapid increase in spending on wafer fabrication equipment is laying the foundation for sustained growth over the coming years. He noted that continued investments in chip manufacturing capacity are expected to create long-term demand for advanced semiconductor testing systems, positioning the company for growth in 2027 and beyond.
The results underscore the broader trend of rising semiconductor capital expenditure, with AI-driven chip production creating new opportunities for companies that supply critical manufacturing and testing technologies.
