Volvo will locally assemble its XC90 and XC90 T8 Excellence in the Bengaluru facility and it targets to launch half of its cars in the fully electric segment
Volvo has announced that it will start to assemble XC90, its flagship SUV in the plug-in hybrid variant at its Bengaluru facility. It will be the first automaker to venture into the local manufacturing of electric and hybrid car manufacturing segments in the country. It will also be introducing an all-electric and four new plug-in hybrid models within the next three years in the market.

The company will assemble XC90 SUV and its updated variant called XC90 T8 Excellence with a hybrid powertrain in its Bengaluru unit starting from 2019. Volvo had earlier announced that it would start manufacturing only hybrid, plug-in hybrid or pure battery-powered electric cars from next year. It now targets to launch half of the new ranges in the fully electric segment by 2025.
Volvo XC 90
This is the first plug-in vehicle to be assembled in India. It is currently available in the Indian market in completely built units (CBU). It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is coupled with an electric motor that produces a combined power output of 407 HP and 640 Nm of torque. It quotes a 0-100kph time of 5.8 seconds and an all-electric range of 40km for the T8. Volvo T8 is priced at Rs 96.65 lakh and the T8 Excellence costs Rs 1.31 crores.
