India’s Sterling Generators Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Sterling and Wilson Private Limited, has entered into a partnership with Spain’s Tecnicas Reunidas, S.A., a global leader in engineering and construction in the energy sector, to develop a 1 MWe hydrogen electrolyser.
The collaboration aims to leverage green hydrogen for India’s energy independence, resilience, and innovation, aligning with the country’s renewable energy targets.There are plans to scale up to 10MW.
Hydrogen is a clean and renewable fuel but its production could harm the environment, if not done in an environment friendly way. When Renewable sources like solar and wind power are used for electrolysis, there are no harmful emissions. This electrolysis splits water (H2O) to yield hydrogen and oxygen, using hydrogen electrolysers.
The agreement was signed at the Embassy of Spain in India, with the presence of the Spanish ambassador, diplomats, government officials, and senior representatives from both companies. This partnership reflects the growing bilateral relations between India and Spain in the clean energy sector, aligning with the joint declaration from recent bilateral meetings focusing on strategic cooperation in clean energy, health, smart cities, and defense.
CEO of Sterling Generators Private Limited, Mr. Sanjay Jadhav, expects this agreement will strengthen India’s adoption of green hydrogen as a key component of its ambitious renewable energy targets. It will help transform India’s abundant solar and wind resources into a strategic advantage in green hydrogen production.
