While global smartphone giants are busy developing folding smartphones, California-based startup Royole has already launched a foldable smartphone in the market
LG, a brand known for its range of appliances and consumers electronics, has filed applications to register three names – Flexi, Foldi and Duplex. A report published on a Dutch site says that there is strong possibility that LG will be using these terms to name its foldable smartphones.
Hwang Jeong Hwan, CEO, LG, had earlier confirmed that the electronic giant was indeed working on a folding display smartphone. LG’s chief of mobile division had confirmed the same during a press conference.
The company filed applications for these three names on November 21, 2018. All these applications were registered for class 9. It is worth mentioning here that class 9 registration includes smartphones.
First folding smartphone already in the market!
While global smartphone giants are busy developing folding smartphones, California-based startup Royole has already launched a foldable smartphone in the market. Dubbed FlexPai, Royole had even organised a flash sale in China for the same, and will start delivering foldable smartphones starting December.

Samsung, Huawei also working on folding smartphones
Reportedly, Samsung and Huawei are also working on foldable smartphones. Samsung has also teased Galaxy X folding phone through an official video posted on YouTube. It is believed that the company is planning to launch their first foldable smartphone in early 2019 with a target of shipping 1 million units.
Meanwhile, Huawei has also hinted that the company is working on developing folding smartphones. Huawei CEO Ken Hu had earlier told a German news site that Huawei’s folding smartphone “could replace a PC”.
