With a primary focus on aerospace and defence segments, the company recently acquired US-based Altek Electronics, which specialises in printed circuit board assemblies and box builds for the medical, industrial, and defence sectors, to balance its offerings, leaving behind the automotive segment. EFY Business elicited details regarding the company’s plans for the segment.
Electronics manufacturing design and solutions provider Cyient DLM has fully staffed its India sales team and is actively pursuing opportunities in new verticals like automotive, where it previously had a limited presence.
In an exclusive conversation with EFY Business, Chief Financial Officer Shrinivas Kulkarni revealed that the company wanted to explore the automotive segment. “That is an area we will look at very favourably if a target comes along. We are in the early stages of conversation. Organically, we have created a robust sales team going purely after automotive customers, especially in India,” he said.
With a fully staffed sales team in India, the company is actively building a strong sales pipeline, particularly for the Indian market, by exploring new areas like automotive. “The initial results are promising, with responses to RFQs and even a few wins already. We’re excited about the potential this area holds for us,” exclaimed Kulkarni.
Kulkarni acknowledged the competitiveness of the automotive segment and said that the company was approaching the new segment cautiously. “While many players are already serving this market, we are careful to avoid diluting our margins just because we are going after a new space. Some nice sweet spots exist, such as suppliers to automotive manufacturers who also consume electronics. Those tend to be quite lucrative, and we have the competence to serve that industry,” he said.
The company has set its eyes on getting a certification from the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) and is applying for the same. ACMA supports manufacturers in achieving internationally recognized quality certifications such as ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) and IATF 16949 (Automotive Quality Management System) standards. While it does not directly issue these certifications, it provides guidance training and development programs to help members achieve them. For component manufacturers looking to export, ACMA provides guidance on obtaining certifications such as CE (Conformité Européenne) marking, UL (Underwriters Laboratories), and other regional certifications essential for accessing global markets.
