With emerging regions showing potential for growth, while the US and China lead, India’s in-car wireless charging market holds a 2% share amid rapid global adoption.

India holds a 2% share in the global in-car wireless charging sales market as of 2024, according to Counterpoint Research. While this figure is modest compared to leading regions, it highlights the beginning of growth in wireless charging adoption within Indian vehicles.

The global in-car wireless charging market is expanding swiftly. In 2024, 54% of new cars worldwide were equipped with wireless charging, up from 48% in 2023. This marks a milestone, as more than half of all new vehicles now come with this convenient feature, once exclusive to premium models.

Globally, the United States (US) leads with a 31% market share, followed closely by China at 28%. Europe holds 19%, while Latin America and Southeast Asia represent 3% and 2%, respectively. The ‘Others’ category, which includes emerging markets, but excluding India, accounts for 15%.

China dominates the manufacturing side, supplying over half of the wireless charging modules for the global automotive market. This production capacity, combined with increasing vehicle electrification, is driving the global surge in wireless charging adoption.

Wireless charging offers a clutter-free experience by eliminating cables, making the vehicle’s interior more organised. Many in-car wireless chargers now support multiple devices, such as smartphones, earbuds, and smartwatches, enhancing the connected user experience.

The rollout of new standards like Qi 2 and Qi 2.1 promises better efficiency and reliability. These innovations, together with the premiumisation of smartphones, are expected to further accelerate adoption worldwide — including in India.
