Bharti Airtel has acquired spectrum worth Rs.43,084 crore in the auction and announced the commencement of 5G services in the month of August, 2022.
Airtel has signed 5G network agreement with gear makers Nokia, Samsung and Ericsson to deploy 5G services this month. It has acquired 19867.8 MHZ spectrum in 26 GHz frequency and 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3300 MHz.
Airtel has led the industry and has been a pilot in 5G technology in India, testing several use cases for the past year. It also set up India’s first rural 5G trial in Hyderabad for cloud gaming experience. Also, Airtel deployed the first and successful captive private network spectrum at BOSH facility.
Gopal Vittal, CEO of Airtel, said, “We are delighted to announce that Airtel will commence roll out of 5G services in August.” Vittal informed that the network agreements are finalised and Airtel will work with the best technology partners globally to deliver the full benefits of 5G connectivity.
“India’s transition into a digital economy will be led by telecom and 5G presents a game-changing opportunity to drive the digital transformation of industries, enterprises and the socio-economic development of India,” Vittal added.
Though this is the first time Airtel partnering with Samsung, it is expected to be the first step for the growth of global connection. The choice of partners will enable higher reach higher probability of increase in ultra-speed, low latency network experience among the users. Also, it will also enable the Airtel to identify new use cases and come up with promising solutions.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, telecom Minister stated that 71% of the spectrum offered was sold across 10 bands. The spectrum top-up by companies will enhance the quality of services for the consumers and the 5G services are expected to be launched by the end of the year.
