Pitching a tech leap, Andhra Pradesh eyes Centre’s nod to become India’s next electronics hub. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu visits New Delhi to meet IT Minister Vaishnaw.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi recently, presenting a detailed proposal to boost the state’s role in India’s electronics manufacturing ambitions.
During the meeting, Naidu voiced support for the Centre’s efforts, particularly praising the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). He said the initiative could help India emerge as a global electronics hub.
Naidu also highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s intent to align with national goals through targeted state-level policies.
The Chief Minister cited two key initiatives – the Semiconductor Display Fab Policy and the Electronics Manufacturing Policy – which aim to attract investors through fiscal incentives and simplified infrastructure. These policies are crafted to enhance ease of doing business and draw global attention to the state’s manufacturing potential.
Naidu detailed the state’s strengths, including four planned Electronics Manufacturing Clusters, a large base of skilled professionals, strong logistics networks, and a governance model focused on industry-friendly reforms.
He noted that Andhra Pradesh is well-positioned to capitalise on shifts in global supply chains, especially as companies seek alternatives to China.
The state’s strategic coastal location, coupled with proactive governance, was presented as a major advantage. Naidu also stressed the importance of collaboration between the Centre and states to ensure India’s self-reliance in electronics.
Although the outcome of this meeting is yet to be disclosed and time will prove its impact, his visit reflects growing coordination between state and central leadership, as India seeks to expand its footprint in high-tech manufacturing.
