Pushing India’s quantum leap, C-DOT teams with Andhra Pradesh to anchor Amaravati’s new Quantum Valley, building secure communication tech, talent, and a national innovation hub.
The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Government to take part in the Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) project. The agreement was exchanged during the 30th CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam, in the presence of Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh.
C-DOT will establish a centre of excellence (CoE) in Quantum Communication and Security Solutions at Amaravati. The centre will also explore related areas, including privacy-enhancing technologies.
C-DOT will support research aligned with the National Quantum Mission. It will work on quantum security solutions, develop privacy tools required under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) framework, and design affordable components for secure communication systems. An integrated testbed for quantum-safe technologies will also be created at Amaravati.
The AQV initiative is Andhra Pradesh’s flagship programme to position the state as a national hub for quantum technologies. The project aims to bring hardware manufacturing, software development, skills training, and advanced research together in one location. Officials expect the ecosystem to attract innovators, industry partners, and academic institutions from across India.
C-DOT, the telecom R&D arm of the Department of Telecommunications, has been working on quantum-secure communication systems for years. According to the Ministry of Communications, its solutions are already deployed in universities, government laboratories, and live communication networks. The organisation believes the new centre will accelerate the adoption of indigenous quantum technologies.
Officials say the initiative will help strengthen India’s defences against emerging cyber threats while expanding the pool of skilled professionals in the quantum domain. The MoU was signed by C-DOT Executive Vice President Dr Pankaj Kumar Dalela, in the presence of senior state government officials.
