With UP’s Chief Minister and Union Minister of Science and Technology laying the foundation, the data centre is set to serve India’s digital future, from public-private enterprises to startups.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the foundation of a ‘Green Data Centre’ in Sahibabad, a collaborative effort between Central Electronics Limited (CEL), a government of India enterprise, and tech firm ESDS Software Solution Limited.
The data centre will have a planned capacity of 30 megawatts and require an investment of approximately ₹10 billion. Once completed, it is expected to serve as a vital digital backbone for government services, startups, and private enterprises alike.
Furthermore, the facility will be built to Tier III standards, ensuring operational resilience and high availability. It will include a 40 Gbps fibre network, dual 10 Gbps cloud links, rainwater harvesting, and smart cooling systems.
With capacity for 200 high-density racks per floor, the data centre is designed to promote technological innovation and create skilled employment.

The government sees this as a significant milestone in India’s digital infrastructure journey, nurturing high energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Dr Singh described the project, highlighting its “strategic importance” towards a self-reliant and digitally empowered India.
He also praised CEL’s role in technology innovation, noting that the organisation developed India’s first solar cell in 1977, and its contribution to defence technologies, including radar components for the Akash Missile System.
The Chief Minister Adityanath commended CEL for its role in expanding solar energy access to remote and tribal regions.
He emphasised how CEL’s innovations have improved digital literacy, enhanced railway safety, and supported rural development, positioning the company as a key driver of inclusive growth.
Dr Singh also announced a Biotechnology Industrial Park in Lucknow and a Startup Conclave post-Independence Day, reinforcing Uttar Pradesh’s growing stature as an innovation hub.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between government and industry to achieve India’s Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.
