When precision matters most, DISTRON’s expansion to new automated conformal coating promises protection for complex PCB assemblies, meeting the demands of aerospace, medical, and defence industries.
DISTRON Corporation, based in the US, has announced the expansion of its manufacturing operations by introducing in-house automated conformal coating, aimed at supporting complex printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies and high-reliability applications.
The company noted that as electronic components become smaller and more intricate, safeguarding assemblies against moisture, chemicals, and environmental stress has become increasingly critical. Manual coating methods often slow production and introduce inconsistencies, particularly in dense, fine-pitch designs.
DISTRON’s automated system seeks to address these challenges by delivering consistent and repeatable results through a fully integrated process.
“At the board level, there is very little margin for error anymore,” said Robert H. Donovan, CEO of DISTRON Corporation. “Bringing automated conformal coating in-house gives us tighter control over the process and better outcomes for our customers, especially on complex builds,” he said.
The system, based on Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) technology, employs programmable selective coating to apply materials precisely while reducing the need for manual masking.
Integrated ultraviolet (UV) and thermal curing ensure coatings are applied under controlled conditions, enhancing both quality and throughput.
This capability enables DISTRON to manage a broad range of production volumes, from prototypes to full-scale manufacturing, without compromising accuracy or efficiency.
The process is particularly suited to industries where durability and performance are paramount, including medical, aerospace and defence, industrial controls, and instrumentation.
Consistent coverage across complex assemblies is a key benefit, with reduced handling variability, controlled curing for long-term performance, and scalability across production volumes.
Donovan added, “Customers are pushing designs further, and they need manufacturing partners who can keep up. This investment is about making sure we can handle that complexity while keeping quality consistent.”
Beyond conformal coating, DISTRON continues to provide full-service electronics manufacturing, specialising in complex PCB assemblies. Its ISO-certified and FDA-compliant processes ensure traceability and quality assurance for regulated industries.
