Gujarat, India’s semicon paradise. On the first day of its SemiConnect Conference, ₹150 billion worth chip deals reportedly got inked, including the ones involving global giants like PSMC.
On the opening day of the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference on Wednesday, agreements were signed indicating a potential investment of nearly ₹150 billion in the state’s semiconductor sector, including proposals from foreign companies.
The event, held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar, marked the beginning of a three-day conference focused on semiconductor innovation.
According to a report by the Economic Times, a standout deal came from NextGen, which committed to setting up a compound semiconductor and optoelectronics facility in the state, with a substantial investment of ₹100 billion.
Additionally, electronics manufacturing company Jabil India signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to establish a silicon photonics manufacturing plant, valued at ₹10 billion.
Gujarat’s Principal Secretary for Science and Technology, Mona Khandhar, confirmed that several MoUs were signed on the first day of the conference, signalling major investments in the region. A partnership was also established between Tata Electronics and IIT Gandhinagar, focusing on skill development in the semiconductor sector.
Further agreements included a collaboration between Tata Electronics, Taiwanese firms PSMC and Himax Technologies, for a new display manufacturing facility in Dholera, Ahmedabad. Tata’s ₹910 billion fab is already an ongoing project there.
Moreover, Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology (TSMT) signed an MoU to set up a new Electronics Manufacturing Services unit in Gujarat, which is expected to create around 1000 new jobs.
The event featured a groundbreaking ceremony for a new OSAT facility by Kaynes Technology in Sanand, set to begin production in January 2026. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also launched infrastructure projects at the Dholera Special Investment Region, including a hospital, an international school, and a fire station.
