With Minister Jaishankar meeting Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, India and the Netherlands explore deeper ties in semiconductors, innovation, and global security.
On Monday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp in New Delhi, focusing on enhancing bilateral ties and exploring fresh opportunities in the semiconductor sector.
The ministers discussed expanding cooperation in areas including trade, investment, innovation, water management, agriculture, health, and security. They also examined new prospects in green hydrogen, education, and talent exchange.
Jaishankar highlighted the importance of deepening people-to-people connections between the two countries.
“Delighted to meet FM Caspar Veldkamp of the Netherlands. Discussed our growing bilateral cooperation… and explored new possibilities in semiconductors and green hydrogen,” he posted on social media platform X.
Veldkamp, who is on a two-day official visit, also met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Ahead of his visit, the Dutch minister shared his intention to strengthen ties with India amid a changing global geopolitical landscape. “It is important for both the Netherlands and India to deepen our relationship,” Veldkamp stated on X.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) extended a warm welcome, calling the visit a step forward in bolstering the “multifaceted relationship” between the two nations.
India and the Netherlands share a longstanding diplomatic relationship, having established formal ties in 1947. In 2022, the two countries celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations. Engagement at the leadership level remains regular, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof on assuming office in July 2024.
The Netherlands is a key partner for India in areas of innovation and technology. The conversation around semiconductors marks a significant step in aligning both nations’ interests in strategic industries of the future.
