Boosting surveillance with indigenously-developed advanced tech for India’s defence capabilities, Asteria Aerospace delivers its AT-15 VTOL drones to the Indian Army.
Asteria Aerospace, a subsidiary of Jio Platform, Reliance Industries has recently delivered the contract for its AT-15 Vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones to the Indian Army. Developed indigenously, these drones have been designed to meet the stringent needs of defence and homeland security forces.
Claiming it to be their largest-ever order, the company sees this as a significant milestone, in line with India’s self-reliance goal. However, no financial information of this contract has been disclosed.
The AT-15 has a blended wing for better aerodynamics and high wind resistance, allowing it to operate at altitudes up to 6000 metres above sea level. With a vertical takeoff and landing ability, the drone can be launched and recovered from confined spaces.
Moreover, it offers a flight time of up to 120 minutes and a range of 20 km, enabling extensive reconnaissance operations. The drone’s EO-IR payload provides high-zoom capabilities, facilitating critical intelligence gathering during day and night.
Highlighting its flight performance in high-altitude areas, along with support for precision targeting and zooming capabilities, Neel Mehta, Director and Co-founder of Asteria Aerospace, commented, “We are confident that they will play a crucial role in enhancing the surveillance capabilities of the Indian Army.”
Asteria Aerospace operates its design and production facility in Bengaluru, which is equipped with a Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR)-recognised R&D lab, ensuring high-quality and compliant products. The company also maintains a presence in Gurugram to serve government and defence clients.
