Boosted by strong demand and local assembly, Apple’s iPhone 17 dominates first-month sales across India.
Apple’s latest flagship, the iPhone 17, has become the company’s best-selling smartphone in India within its first month of launch, accounting for 57% of total iPhone sales, according to market researchers Bernstein, Counterpoint, and IDC. This marks a major milestone for Apple, reflecting the brand’s growing presence and consumer demand in one of its fastest-expanding markets.
Sales of the iPhone 17 were reported to be 15–20% higher than those of previous models in the same launch period, driven by robust local demand, longer EMI plans, and improved supply due to local assembly. Analysts noted that this edition’s performance outpaced the iPhone 16, which had seen only single-digit growth in its launch phase last year.
Industry experts attribute this surge to a combination of enhanced affordability, Apple’s expanding retail presence, and the availability of diverse financing schemes across India. Tarun Pathak, partner at Counterpoint, remarked that these factors have “enabled Apple to reach a wider consumer base and sustain strong momentum.”
Bernstein analysts added that Apple’s Europe segment, including India, the Middle East, and Africa, saw a notable rise in sales, supported by favourable macroeconomic conditions.
Apple’s India revenue for FY25 is projected to exceed $10 billion, contributing nearly 2.5% of its global revenue, which stands around $400 billion. The strong first-month performance of the iPhone 17 underscores India’s growing importance as a strategic market for Apple’s long-term expansion.
Analysts believe sustained local promotions and affordability initiatives will continue to bolster Apple’s growth trajectory in India through the financial year.
