Tuesday, October 21, 2014: Central government’s newly launched Make in India initiative will benefit the electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) industry in India as the campaign is expected to pull investment proposals around Rs 100,000 million in the next couple of years, claims India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
The industry body is looking forward to launch initiatives to help the government support design-led manufacturing in the ESDM sector in India. The association proposed to set up an international investment promotion cell to attract more investments from abroad and build partnerships with trade entities in japan, Taiwan, the U.S., Singapore and other countries. Ashok Chandak, chairman of the IESA, has said that the ESDM industry is expected to rake in Rs 100,000 million investment proposals.
Industry records show that only one among three proposals in this space gets approved. The chairman added 45 proposals have been made so far but only 15-16 have been approved till August 2014. But Chandak says they are expecting that half of the proposals will get approval in days ahead. The industry body is also in close collaboration with department of electronics and information technology to establish incubation centres. He said that the association is planning to launch five start-up incubation centres which will be partially sponsored by central as well as state governments. One incubation centre will also be set up in Delhi-NCR and the remaining ones will be opened in Bangalore, Pune, Indore, and states of Kerala and Odisha.
