Mobis India Foundation Distributes 48 Mobility Devices in Andhra Pradesh

Developed and patented at IIT Madras, the assistive devices are designed to address mobility challenges faced by wheelchair users in India.

Mobis India Foundation, the CSR arm of Hyundai Mobis in India, has distributed 48 personalised mobility devices to wheelchair users in Puttaparthi, Sri Sathya Sai district, Andhra Pradesh, as part of its ongoing “Accessibility & Freedom – Empowering Wheelchair Users with Mobility Assistive Devices” initiative.

The distribution was carried out in collaboration with NeoMotion, an IIT Madras-incubated assistive technology company, which supplied the customised NeoFly wheelchairs and NeoBolt motor-powered attachments.

The Andhra Pradesh distribution marks the second phase of a ₹6.3 crore mobility empowerment project under which 600 wheelchair users across eight states and union territories will receive personalized mobility solutions. The initiative aims to improve accessibility, independent mobility, and quality of life for persons with disabilities by enabling safe and affordable movement in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Each beneficiary received a customised NeoFly wheelchair, tailored to individual physical requirements following detailed assessments and measurements. The wheelchair can be paired with NeoBolt, a motor-powered attachment that converts it into a powered mobility device within seconds, allowing users to travel longer distances independently. Developed and patented at IIT Madras, the assistive devices are designed to address mobility challenges faced by wheelchair users in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindhuja, Deputy Manager (HRGA-Legal & CSR Incharge), Mobis India Ltd., said the Andhra Pradesh distribution follows the successful completion of the first phase in Tamil Nadu and reflects the company’s continued commitment to promoting accessibility and inclusion.

“Today’s distribution in Andhra Pradesh marks the second handover ceremony under our ₹6.3 crore mobility empowerment initiative with NeoMotion. Following the successful first phase in Tamil Nadu, we are encouraged by the impact these mobility solutions are creating in the lives of wheelchair users. At Mobis India Foundation, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that foster independence, accessibility, and inclusion, enabling beneficiaries to participate more actively in education, employment, and community life,” she said.
