Alcatel is making a comeback in India as NxtCell partners with Dixon’s Padget Electronics to locally produce feature-rich smartphones targeting the mid-premium segment.
NxtCell India has partnered with Padget Electronics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, to manufacture smartphones under the Alcatel brand. This development marks Alcatel’s re-entry into the Indian market after a gap of seven years.
As part of the arrangement, NxtCell will initially focus on smartphone production, with plans to expand into other consumer electronics categories under the Alcatel label. Manufacturing operations will be carried out at Padget Electronics’ facility, where a dedicated team will handle the assembly of these devices. The company has outlined a production capacity of 1.2 million smartphones annually.
The first batch of made-in-India Alcatel smartphones is expected to be launched within the next two months. NxtCell has committed an initial investment of ₹2.6 billion to support the production, marketing, and relaunch of the brand in India.
The upcoming range of smartphones will cater to the mid-premium segment, particularly in the ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 price range. These devices will feature stylus support, a function usually reserved for high-end models in the market. By introducing such features at more affordable prices, the company aims to capture a significant share of India’s value-driven smartphone segment.
To strengthen its distribution network, NxtCell has entered into an exclusive online sales partnership with Flipkart, one of the country’s leading e-commerce platforms. This collaboration will provide nationwide reach and visibility for the Alcatel brand.
