Eyeing to power India’s semiconductor future with a more refined talent pool, SEMI is launching India Semiconductor Academy, inspired by the American model.
Global semiconductor industry association SEMI is reportedly launching the India Semiconductor Academy, inspired by its successful American Semiconductor Academy in the US, to nurture critical talent for the country’s growing semiconductor industry.
According to an exclusive report by Digitimes Asia, this is a part of its broader efforts to support India’s goal of becoming a leader in semiconductor production. However, the location and the investment behind this institution remain undisclosed.
The organisation aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry in India, equipping engineers with the necessary skills for the semiconductor sector, inspired by the success of the American Semiconductor Academy, which connects over 250 US universities to the industry.
SEMI’s President and CEO, Ajit Manocha, confirmed the initiative, emphasising the importance of developing India’s vast talent pool to meet the needs of the semiconductor sector. He noted that the academy would collaborate with top Indian technical institutions, including IITs and NITs, to create specialised training programmes and semiconductor curricula.
In addition to talent development, SEMI has partnered with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), a key player in India’s electronics sector. This collaboration will support the creation of a thriving ecosystem by attracting investment and fostering innovation.
Manocha also stressed the importance of successful semiconductor projects in India, particularly those by companies like Tata, in attracting international players.
While SEMI does not directly facilitate partnerships, its neutral platform will help connect industry stakeholders and promote collaboration through annual events that gather millions of participants.
