Keysight Technologies has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to lead a three-year program to develop secure, blockchain-enabled anomaly detection for 5G non-terrestrial networks (NTNs). As the prime contractor, Keysight will collaborate with Sateliot to build a trusted framework for satellite-based 5G and future 6G communications.
Supported by ESA’s Space for 5G/6G & Sustainable Connectivity programme under ARTES, the initiative aims to improve the security, reliability, and integrity of increasingly complex satellite communication networks. The project will explore the use of blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and digital calibration certificates across the entire NTN lifecycle—from satellite manufacturing and testing to in-orbit operations and service delivery.
Eric Taylor, Vice President, Aerospace, Defence and Government Solutions at Keysight, said: “This initiative represents a major step toward securing hybrid space–terrestrial networks at a time when global NTN deployments are accelerating. Test and measurement expertise with AI-driven assurance and blockchain technologies will demonstrate how trust can be embedded across the full NTN lifecycle – from design and validation through in-orbit operation.”
The program will advance from laboratory research and prototyping to a full in-orbit demonstration, validating blockchain-based trust, autonomous anomaly detection, and secure telemetry in operational satellite environments. The initiative is expected to strengthen Europe’s leadership in secure satellite connectivity while accelerating the adoption of trusted space-based IoT, 5G, and future 6G networks.
