Tata Sons to Invest $116M in Tata Electronics

Tata electronics has expanded its manufacturing footprint by acquiring Wistron’s India business and taking a controlling stake in Pegatron Electronics India.

Tata Sons is going to invest ₹1100 crore ($116 million) in Tata electronics, the contract manufacturer of iPhones and the firm’s semiconductor manufacturing arm as per company filings. The latest infusion follows a $158 million investment in March, the filings indicated.

The investment aligns with the company strategy of combining the fast growing mobile phone manufacturing with the emerging semiconductor fabrication industry. Tata electronics has expanded its manufacturing footprint by acquiring Wistron’s India business and taking a controlling stake in Pegatron Electronics India.

The group company’s revenue shot up by 97 percent, year-on-year, to $13.81 billion in FY26. Tata electronics reached break-even at an operating profit level, Tata Sons chairman N Chadrashekhar told shareholders. However, the company’s loss widened to $170 million from $7.3 million, during the same time.

The semiconductor manufacturing plans of the company include a fabrication plant in Dholera in Gujarat, being developed in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, with a planned capacity of 50,000 wafers per month. Tata electronics also announced $2.85 billion investment in an OSAT facility in Assam’s Jagiroad. Both the investments aim to boost semiconductor manufacturing in India, inclusive of different stages of chip  production.
