Accelerating from niche to mainstream, electric motorcycles are charging ahead in India with new launches and surging sales, reshaping the two-wheeler landscape fast.
India’s electric motorcycle segment is beginning to pick up pace after a slow start, with 2025 seeing a sharp rise in new launches. According to recent data by JMK Research & Analytics, while electric scooters have dominated the early EV landscape, electric motorcycles are now stepping into the spotlight with broader product diversity, improved range, and competitive pricing.
The journey began modestly in 2019 with the launch of the Revolt RV400, a commuter-friendly model offering a practical range of 150km. Six years later, FY2025 has seen a surge in new electric motorcycle models: 14 launches compared to just 6 in FY2024. The numbers were 8 and 9 in FY2022 and FY2023, respectively, indicating that FY2025 marks a turning point in OEM interest and product pipeline
Revolt continues to lead the segment by consistently upgrading its offerings and expanding into Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. It has sold 11,725 units after a dip to 7729 in FY2024. However, it is still below its peak that came in FY2023 at 13,959 units.
Oben Electric, which entered the market in 2023, is focusing on affordability with its O100 platform, offering models under ₹100,000. The company has 37 stores across 13 states and targets 150 showrooms by FY26.
It began reporting sales in FY2024 with 78 units, has increased that number to 1247 in FY2025; an over 15x jump in a year.

Similarly, Bengaluru-based Ultraviolette Automotive, though catering to a premium segment, recorded sales of 60 units in FY2023, 247 in FY2024, and 554 in FY2025, more than doubling year-on-year. It already has a presence in 10 European countries.
Meanwhile, new players are filling market gaps. Matter Motors launched the Aera in October 2024, India’s first geared electric motorcycle with a four-speed manual transmission, named HyperShift. Komaki has introduced electric cruisers offering a range of 160–240 km, priced between ₹129,999 and ₹134,999.

Ola’s Roadster series offers a wide range (116–321km) across variants priced from ₹74,999 to ₹199,999. Additionally, Hero MotoCorp has partnered with Zero Motorcycles, a California-based company, to develop electric bikes for the Indian market.
This growth signals rising consumer interest, stronger R&D capabilities, and broader market acceptance. The report stated that as the world’s largest ICE motorcycle market, India now offers significant opportunities for EV players, driven by affordability, innovation, and expanding global ambition.
