India’s EV Market Reaches 7.98 Million Units In 2025

Bolstered by expanding charging infrastructure, India’s EV market saw 7.98 million sales in 2025, with strong growth across electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars, and buses.

The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market experienced significant growth in 2025, with total sales reaching 7.98 million units. According to a recent report by JMK Research & Analytics, annual sales exceeded 2.3 million vehicles, marking a substantial increase in EV adoption across segments.

Among these, electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) led the way, accounting for 57% of total sales, followed by passenger electric three-wheelers (E3Ws), which made up 29% of the market share.

The electric two-wheeler segment saw an 11% increase in sales in 2025 compared to the previous year. TVS Motors, Bajaj Auto, and Ather dominated this category, collectively capturing over 60% of the market share.

In the electric three-wheeler (E3W) category, which includes both passenger and cargo vehicles, total sales grew by 15% year-on-year. In the passenger E3W segment, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and YC Electric were the top players, with Mahindra, Bajaj, and TVS commanding 84% of the L5 E3W passenger market.

Meanwhile, in the cargo E3W segment, Mahindra, Bajaj, and Omega Seiki led, holding a combined share of 54% in the L5 category.

Electric cars (E-cars) saw a remarkable growth of 82% in 2025, with Tata Motors securing the largest share at 39%, followed by MG Motor at 29%.

On the other hand, electric buses (E-buses) grew by 18%, with Olectra Greentech, PMI Electro, and Switch Mobility leading the market, collectively accounting for 68% of E-bus sales.

Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi were the leading states for EV sales, accounting for over 50% of the total market. In EV penetration, Tripura topped the list at 18.38%, followed by Assam at 14.30%.

In terms of individual player performance, TVS Motor led the electric two-wheeler segment with the highest EV penetration at 5.26%. In the electric car segment, MG Motor recorded the highest EV penetration at 74.34%, while Mahindra led both the passenger and cargo electric three-wheeler segments with penetrations of 96% and 63.66%, respectively.

The expansion of charging infrastructure also kept pace with the surge in EV sales. India now has over 29,000 public charging stations, with Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu accounting for more than 55% of the total charging network.

The report highlighted that the EV market in India is poised for further growth in 2026, with key states and players continuing to drive adoption. The country’s expanding charging infrastructure and the increasing market share of EVs across different vehicle categories indicate a promising future for sustainable mobility in India.
