From component distribution to turnkey solutions, and a partnership with Arduino, how is a homegrown company building an end-to-end electronics ecosystem while preparing both products and talent for the future? Kiran M S from Indus Technologies tells everything to EFY’s Shubha Mitra and Nidhi Agarwal.
Q. Could you tell us about your company and its core business divisions?
A. We operate through two major divisions. We began as an electronic component distributor, serving as a supply chain partner for our customers. Over time, we evolved beyond distribution and are now a one-stop destination for electronic supply chain solutions. Today, we offer component distribution, PCB solutions, and electronic design services. We support customers from the design stage through to final product delivery, providing end-to-end solutions under one roof.
Q. How does your partnership with Arduino benefit customers and product development?
A. Arduino is an important technology platform in today’s ecosystem. Traditionally, launching a product meant spending three to six months on research and development (R&D) alone. With Arduino, that timeline can be significantly reduced. Through rapid prototyping, customers can develop a proof of concept (PoC) in as little as two days. The journey from PoC to prototype, pilot, and production becomes much faster, enabling quicker product development and faster time-to-market.
Q. How are you contributing to the academic ecosystem?
A. You see, Arduino already has a strong global student ecosystem, and we actively contribute to it. We work with educational institutions and universities to establish robotics and IoT labs on campuses. Our goal is to make students industry-ready before graduation. By training them in IoT, robotics, and practical electronics development, we help bridge the gap between academia and industry needs, and we are already partnering with several institutions to do so.
Q. India is strongly promoting ‘Make in India.’ How has this initiative influenced your operations?
A. Indus Technologies is a homegrown Indian company, and supporting Make in India has always been part of our philosophy. We have our own PCB division where we handle PCB design, manufacturing, and assembly in-house. Our assembly and fabrication facilities are located in Ahmedabad. Except for semiconductor components that are not yet manufactured domestically, most of our processes are carried out within India. In this way, we actively contribute to the government’s vision by strengthening local electronics manufacturing capabilities.
Q. What are your future expansion plans in manufacturing?
A. As I said earlier, initially, we started as a distributor. Then we transformed into a solution provider, and now we are moving toward turnkey solutions. Our vision for the coming years is to establish our own manufacturing plant. With government incentives and subsidy schemes supporting electronics manufacturing, we are exploring joint ventures with like-minded component manufacturers to enter component manufacturing ourselves. We have already applied under recent government schemes and are currently awaiting approvals.
Q. How has your participation in industry exhibitions evolved over the years?
A. We have been participating in Electronics exhibitions for the past 17 years, and the platform has played an important role in our growth. Earlier, our participation was largely B2B-focused. However, this year marks a shift toward both B2B and B2C engagement, mainly because Arduino connects us directly with individual innovators, researchers, students, and universities. The exhibition has therefore become an ideal platform for expanding our reach across both industry and consumer innovation communities.
