In line with India’s clean energy goals, NTPC has commissioned its 245MW solar plant at Nokh, Rajasthan, pushing the group’s total installed capacity to 81,420MW.
The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has announced the full commercial operation of 245 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity at Plot-3 of the Nokh Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Project in Rajasthan. This follows the commissioning of the final 52MW segment on Sunday.
Earlier, the first phase of the unit—comprising 193MW—began commercial operations on 9 June 2025. With this milestone, NTPC has completed one full unit under the broader 735MW (3x245MW) Nokh Solar PV Project, located in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district.
Following this development, NTPC’s total standalone commercial capacity has increased to 60,318MW. Its overall group capacity, including joint ventures and subsidiaries, has now reached 81,420MW.
According to the company, this progress is part of NTPC’s long-term strategy to expand its non-fossil fuel portfolio, in alignment with national renewable energy targets.
To support this shift, NTPC has been steadily increasing its solar and wind capacity to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on coal-based generation.
Earlier this year, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary, secured a 1,000MW solar power project from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) at a tariff of ₹2.56/kWh through an e-reverse auction for interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar PV projects across India.
This latest commissioning also supports the Indian government’s target of achieving 500GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. As part of this vision, NTPC aims to contribute 60GW by 2032.
