As part of the Smart City project, 60 new electric buses are to be on the roads of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the 7 new electric buses and handed them to Antony Raju, the Transport Minister, on Saturday evening. The 60 new e-buses are to be added to the fleet of KSRTC in Thiruvananthapuram as part of the Smart City initiative by the Kerala government.
The Chief Minister expressed his views on his Facebook profile and said the remaining 53 buses will be handed over soon to KSRTC. Vijayan feels that fast and eco-friendly transport is a key factor in comprehensive urban development. He further said that, at present, the state capital has 50 electric buses in operation. With this new inclusion, the total count of electric buses in the state will rise to 163, furthering the capital’s transformation into a green city.
Vijayan believes that these buses will help cover the gap the state has in the average transportation speed, which is 40% less than the national average. Once the rest of the buses are on the roads the public transport services in the capital will be completely electric and eco-friendly.
