To enhance semiconductor and electronics services and support its goals in the industry, glassmaker AGC Group is set to open a new technology lab in Hsinchu, Taiwan, next month.
Japanese glass manufacturer AGC Group has revealed plans to open a new tech hub in Hsinchu, Taiwan, to provide specialised technical services to chemical products and raw materials related to semiconductor and electronic materials.
This facility, called AGC Chemicals Technical Centre is set to open its doors in October 2024. Given Taiwan’s crucial position in the semiconductor manufacturing supply chain, the company sees this expansion as a complement to its existing manufacturing and sales efforts in the electronics sector.
As part of AGC’s medium-term management plan, AGC Plus-2026, the company sees ‘performance chemicals’ as a key strategic area, mainly focusing on the electronics and semiconductor industries.
In their official statement, AGC mentioned the Taiwan location, which is a global chip hub covering all stages of industry processes from front-end to back-end. With the new facility, AGC intends to enhance its marketing efforts, making way to evaluate chemical products to address customers’ manufacturing and development needs.
Furthermore, AGC announced it has received an environmental product declaration (EPD) for architectural float glass produced at its Kashima plant in Japan. In electronics, these raw materials are essential for the performance of components and various applications, including protective covers and substrates.
The EPD certification, verified by the Sustainable Management Promotion Organisation (SuMPO), provides detailed data on the environmental impacts of raw material sourcing and production.
Based in Tokyo, AGC Group provides glass solutions, including flat, automotive, and display glass, as well as chemicals, ceramics, and high-tech materials. Being in the industry for almost a century and employing around 56,000 people globally, the company operates in about 30 countries and generates annual sales of approximately 1.7 trillion Japanese yen.
