A Centre of Excellence (CoE) will also be established under the agreement to enhance practical learning and research
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens EDA to strengthen semiconductor education among engineering students. The initiative will extend advanced software training to nearly 300 affiliated colleges across Uttar Pradesh, supporting India’s semiconductor mission.
As part of the collaboration, Siemens EDA will provide seven electronic design automation (EDA) software packages under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. These include Design Verification Bond, IC Nanometer Design Bond, PCB Design Bundle, Questa Advanced Formal Bond, Valour PCB Design Verif Bond, Aprisa P&R Platform Bond, and 3D IC Design Bond. The software access will be made available across AKTU-affiliated institutions, said Ruchak Dixit, Vice President and Country Manager, Siemens EDA, during a press conference.
The partnership aims to build student capabilities in semiconductor technologies, particularly benefiting those studying VLSI design, electronics, instrumentation, and related fields. According to Dixit, the initiative will play a key role in fostering indigenous semiconductor development.
A Centre of Excellence (CoE) will also be established under the agreement to enhance practical learning and research. Highlighting the importance of the initiative, JP Pandey, Vice-Chancellor of AKTU, said the programme will significantly improve student employability by offering training in semiconductor design, packaging, and automation. He added that such efforts will contribute to reducing India’s reliance on semiconductor imports.
Additionally, Siemens will organise a Faculty Development Programme for educators from institutions including Lucknow University, Jaunpur University, Meerut University, and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay University.
Students completing the programme will receive certification through a two-credit skill development course conducted over multiple semesters, Pandey added.
