Saturday, August 02, 2014: In a bid to develop the IT and electronics sector in the state, the Andhra Pradesh government has revealed its plan to invest Rs 17,850 million. The government has unveiled a ‘blueprint’ for the development and promotion of electronics, information technology and e-governance, with the aim of creating one entrepreneur and one IT professional in every family in the state.
The blueprint highlights three broad missions, that involve electronics, IT, e-governance and innovation and capacity building with targets fixed for the next three-five years.
Taking about the initiative, state IT minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said, “The state government has plans to spend Rs 17,850 million on these initiatives. Through these, the government aims for a growth of IT industry that can achieve Rs 120,000 million in exports in the next few years.”
The AP government aims to attract investment worth Rs 300,000 million in the electronics hardware sector. With the development of these two sectors, the government aims to generate 500,000 jobs for the aspiring engineering graduates in the state, according to him.
“We want to see one IT professional coming out of every family in our state. We also want to create one entrepreneur from every family through these and other initiatives,” Reddy said.
The state government has already worked on a new IT policy that provides incentives to attract software companies. The policy would be presented in the state cabinet on 1 August. “Many companies told us they will take a decision (on setting up operations) once they see the new IT policy,” he said.
