Boosting ties ahead of Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Seoul visit sparks talks with top South Korean firms on semiconductors and clean energy.
During his recent visit to Seoul, Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, held crucial meetings with prominent South Korean business leaders to discuss potential investments in semiconductor manufacturing and clean energy.
Sarma met with tech giant SK Hynix’s Vice President, Dr Joon Choi, where he shared his vision of developing Assam as a key player in the semiconductor industry. He emphasised the state’s commitment to building a robust semiconductor ecosystem, which is a top government priority.
The Chief Minister also held talks with Seoul Viosys CEO, Lee Young Joo, and highlighted Assam’s efforts to support semiconductor companies through the development of critical infrastructure, including a planned satellite township.
In addition to semiconductors, renewable energy was a key topic of discussion. Sarma met with GS Group Vice President, Young Ha Ryu, to explore opportunities for collaboration in clean energy projects.
Assam aims to generate 3GW of renewable energy by 2030 and is seeking partnerships in both power generation and workforce training for the sector.
Further strengthening ties between Assam and South Korea, Sarma engaged with Oh Youngju, South Korea’s Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Startups, to discuss potential collaborations between startups from both regions.
According to a press statement, these engagements are part of Assam’s broader economic initiative, Advantage Assam 2.0, which seeks to attract the state’s international investments and technological expertise.
In addition, Sarma visited the Startup Campus in Pangyo Techno Valley, often referred to as South Korea’s ‘Silicon Valley,’ to explore innovations from Korean tech startups. He extended invitations to several industry leaders to participate in the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, scheduled to take place in Guwahati at the end of February.
As reported by ANI, CM Sarma is also set to visit Tokyo, Japan, where he will engage with key industry figures in preparation for the event.
