Battery-swapping hubs promise faster and cleaner commutes, recharging both vehicles and the environment for a more sustainable city future.
Indian Railways has joined hands with Indofast Energy to bring out a network of cutting-edge battery swapping stations at key railway hubs across the Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions.
Indian Railway’s South-Central division has taken this decision; other divisions are expected to join the electric boom soon.
Under this agreement, 25 railway stations have been powered with 80 swap stations (56 swap stations for the Secundarabad and 24 swap stations for the Hyderabad division). Also, an additional 40 swap stations have been planned for the next 3 months.
End-users who are most likely to benefit include ride-sharing drivers, last-mile delivery partners, and daily commuters using electric two- and three-wheelers. Instead of waiting hours to recharge, drivers, whether daily commuters, cab operators, or delivery fleets, can swap out depleted batteries for fully charged ones in minutes, keeping vehicles on the road and schedules on track.
This model may also help in reducing the upfront cost of EV ownership, supporting 24/7 public transport operations, and boosting productivity for businesses reliant on timely deliveries.
The battery-swap stations are expected to contribute in creating a robust and sustainable energy infrastructure that supports the transition to electric mobility.
The important advantage will be alleviation of range anxiety and a productivity boost through quick and convenient battery swaps. The planned swap hubs can be easily accessible within railway station areas and are planned to give ease of use.
