The revised policy focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, tackling vehicular pollution, and improving overall air quality across the state
The Government of Bihar has approved key amendments to its electric vehicle (EV) policy, aiming to ensure that at least 30% of all new vehicles sold in the state by 2030 are electric. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The revised policy focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, tackling vehicular pollution, and improving overall air quality across the state. It also seeks to boost public acceptance of EVs, enhance rural mobility, and promote the adoption of commercial electric goods vehicles, as well as non-commercial two- and four-wheelers.
Under the ‘Chief Minister, Bihar Environment-Friendly Transport Employment Scheme’, the government will provide incentives through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for the purchase and registration of electric commercial vehicles, electric two-wheelers for women and select beneficiaries, and non-commercial four-wheelers exclusively for women. The initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities while also supporting women’s mobility and empowerment.
Additionally, financial assistance will be provided to set up EV charging infrastructure. The state may also seek support from the Ministry of Heavy Industries under the PM E-DRIVE scheme to expand public charging networks.
In a parallel move, the cabinet approved a 5% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners under the 6th Central Pay Commission, effective January 1, 2026.
