Bridging tech, US’s e-con Systems and Japan’s Shikino High-Tech partner to reshape embedded vision solutions in Japan’s mobility, healthcare, and robotics sectors.
US-based e-con Systems and Japan’s Shikino High-Tech have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on expanding embedded vision camera solutions in Japan, including semiconductor design and testing equipment.
The partnership aims to address market-specific requirements in Japan, including regulatory compliance and localised product support. It focuses on product distribution and sales development for sectors including mobility, intelligent transport systems (ITS), agriculture, healthcare, robotics, and retail.
Under the agreement, Shikino will support the introduction of e-con Systems’ camera modules into the Japanese market. The collaboration also involves exploring joint sales strategies and customer engagement tailored to local demand.
Commenting on the development, Shinichi Takahashi, Executive Director at Shikino High-Tech, stated that the alliance will allow the company to respond to a broader range of customer needs by offering camera modules that it does not currently manufacture.
“By enhancing our lineup with camera products from e-con Systems that we do not have, and combining them with our support capabilities, we expect to offer new and attractive proposals to our Japanese customers,” he said.
e-con Systems, which operates in North American and European markets, sees Japan as a strategic area for growth.
“The embedded vision market is rapidly evolving, but companies still face major challenges—from regional compliance complexities to the need for deeply localized product support and faster deployment cycles,” noted Harishankkar Subramanyam, Co-Founder and VP of Business Development at e-con Systems.
He said that the cooperation is intended to improve localisation and reduce time-to-market for new technologies.
Shikino, which has been active in the industrial and medical camera sectors since 2004, expects the partnership to expand its product lineup. The company has recently launched a camera-based monitoring system for elder care and aims to diversify further into emerging application areas.
