Dangling fat pay packets and global roles, tech majors court young engineers from IITs and NITs.
Top semiconductor and technology firms, including Nvidia, Intel, and AMD, are offering lucrative roles to graduates from India’s premier engineering institutes, signalling a surge in demand for chip design and computing talent.
Placements at institutions such as the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, as well as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Dharwad, Bhubaneswar, and NITs in Jamshedpur, are witnessing heightened interest. The spotlight is on students with a flair for integrated circuits, chip architecture, and advanced computing systems.
With early placement sessions commencing on 1 December, several colleges are reporting a rush of pre-placement offers. Industry leaders like Dell Technologies, Lenovo, and Tata Electronics are extending opportunities, often backed by global assignments and internships.
Recruiters are particularly eyeing younger IITs and NITs, which are fast emerging as reliable talent hubs. According to placement officials, multinational companies are eager to secure top candidates before competitors, ensuring access to specialists in electrical, mechanical, and materials science.
The aggressive push reflects the worldwide chip shortage and the urgent need to expand design and manufacturing capacity. Tata Electronics, for instance, is investing in semiconductor initiatives in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, further fuelling recruitment demand.
As industry giants woo India’s brightest engineers, campuses are abuzz with optimism, signalling one of the strongest hiring seasons in recent years.
