The Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) has launched the work on constructing a 65-MW solar power plant at Block-1.
The new plant was part of a larger plan to establish 4,000 MW solar power projects in various states under green initiatives and also in line with the National Solar Mission announced by the Government of India.
On 325 acres The 65-MW solar power plant will be constructed on 325 acres at Neyveli. Approximately 2,30,465 solar photo voltaic modules (solar panels), each with a power generating capacity of 305/310 watt will be installed. The power generated from this plant will be fed to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), the sole beneficiary. Jakson Engineering Limited, is the engineering, procurement and commissioning contractor of this project.
Earlier, NLC established a 10-MW solar photo voltaic project at Neyveli at a cost of Rs.74.60 crore, which is commissioned by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
