For cleaner, sustainable travel between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, FlixBus India announces its first electric bus route, collaborating with ETO Motors.
Transport service provider FlixBus India has marked its first anniversary by launching its inaugural electric bus route in India. In partnership with EV manufacturer ETO Motors, the initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and provide cleaner travel options for passengers.
The electric bus service, which is set to run between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, will begin operations in late February after a two-week test run. According to the company, this project will involve four electric buses, to assess their performance and expand the network using a hub-and-spoke model.
The buses will be supported by ‘Thunder Plus’, a charging assistance platform that will provide 240KW fast charging stations to ensure smooth operations, prevent overheating, and maintain efficiency.
The announcement was recently made during a ceremony at ITC Kakatiya, Hyderabad, attended by key figures such as Ponnam Prabhakar, Telangana’s Minister of Transport, and senior representatives from both FlixBus India and ETO Motors.
Minister Prabhakar expressed his support, stating, “FlixBus and ETO Motors will together address the long-distance sustainable mobility needs of people in Telangana and the southern region with a technology-driven alternative. We wish both companies good luck and hope they help accelerate adoption of e-buses across the country.”
Surya Khurana, Managing Director of FlixBus India, reflected on the company’s growth in its first year, having connected over 200 cities nationwide. The introduction of electric buses is a further step in FlixBus India’s strategy to offer efficient and eco-friendly travel solutions.
Rajeev YSR, Group CMO of ETO Motors, also emphasised that this collaboration would set new standards for intercity travel by integrating sustainable electric mobility solutions into the existing network.
The companies aim to offer a comprehensive service that covers the entire journey, from first-mile to last-mile travel, alongside middle-mile intercity connections.
